What is cosmetic dentistry?
What is Bleaching?
Tooth bleaching is a procedure offered for cosmetic purposes and can be a highly effective way of lightening the natural color of your teeth without removing any of the tooth surface.Bleaching can be performed on living teeth or teeth that have undergone root canal treatment. There are two main forms of bleaching, namely Power bleaching & Tray-Based System.

What Are Veneers?
Veneers are thin, custom-made moldings that cover the
fronts of unsightly teeth. They are crafted from tooth colored,
high-tech materials to portray a natural, bright smile.

Should You Consider Veneers?
Veneers provide an alternative to traditional crowns.
They cover unattractive gaps, and can mask stained, misshaped or crooked teeth. If these conditions apply to your mouth, veneers may be your best option.

How Long Will Veneers Last?
Veneers are intended to last for many years. Unlike
most bonding materials, veneers will not change color
over time. You should consult with your dentist to find
out exactly how long veneers will last in your mouth.

How Are Veneers Applied?
The tooth is reshaped initially to allow for the added thickness of the veneer. A molded image is taken of the reshaped tooth and sent to a dental laboratory where
the veneer is custom-made to fit your mouth. The veneer is applied with adhesive material which bonds it to the original tooth structure.

Benefits of Veneers
• A minimal amount of the natural tooth must be altered to fit the veneer.
• Veneers can be matched to make even
the darkest teeth appear to be bright white.
• Minor twists and overlaps, as well as small gaps, can be quickly corrected through the use of veneers.

Maintaining Your Veneers
Here are some tips for making sure your veneers stay sparkling.
Brush and Floss Regularly to
Prevent Oral Hygiene Problems.
• Veneers generally cannot be damaged by abrasion from your toothbrush or floss.
• Good oral hygiene will ensure your veneers stay strong and provide you with a long-lasting, attractive smile.

Advantages of Veneers
Tooth-Like Appearance
Since veneers are individually sculpted for each patient, it is nearly impossible to tell the difference between a veneer and a natural tooth.

Stain-Resistant
Custom-made veneers resist stains from coffee, tea and
cigarette smoke because they are made of high-tech,
extremely polishable materials.

Keep In Mind
When considering veneers, keep in mind these important points before undergoing the treatment.
Non-Reversible Procedure
Because a small amount of tooth is reduced to fit the veneers, the process is NOT reversible.
How long will Bonding last?
Because bonding material can chip, it is important to avoid such habits as biting fingernails; chewing on pens, ice or other hard food objects; or using your bonded teeth as an opener. The lifespan of bonding materials depends on how much bonding was done and your oral habits. Typically, however, bonding material lasts from 3 years up to about 10 years before needing to be touched up or replaced.

What is Bonding?
Bonding is the application of a tooth-colored composite resin (plastic) to repair a decayed, chipped, fractured or discolored tooth. Composite tooth bonding is a cosmetic dentistry technique that can work wonders for your smile.
The procedure is called bonding because the material bonds to the tooth.

What it's Used for?
The composite resin used in bonding can be shaped and polished to match the surrounding teeth. Most often, bonding is used for cosmetic purposes to improve the appearance of a discolored or chipped tooth. It also can be used to close spaces between teeth, to make teeth look longer or to change the shape or color of teeth.
Advantages of Bonding
Bonding is among the easiest and least expensive of cosmetic dental procedures. Unlike veneers and crowns, which are customized tooth coverings that must be manufactured in a laboratory, bonding usually can be done in one office visit unless several teeth are involved. Another advantage, compared with veneers and crowns, is that the least amount of tooth enamel is removed. It's also great for an instant repair of a broken front tooth. Also, unless dental bonding is being performed to fill a cavity, anesthesia is usually not required.

What is Power Bleaching?
Power Bleaching: which is instantaneous, a strong solution is placed directly on the teeth. A rubber dam is placed over your teeth to protect the gums. A bleaching solution is placed on the teeth. Ultraviolet light that generates a small amount of heat is directed at the teeth. Oxygen from the solution enters the enamel and bleaches the colored substances. The color of the tooth is made lighter.
What is Tray-Based System?
This system is more methodical bleaching that takes about 2 weeks to accomplish.  Tray-based teeth whitening system involves the use of a custom bleaching tray that has been fabricated and adjusted so it fits comfortably over the patient's teeth.
Comparison
Both systems accomplish exactly the same results as proven in dental research. Power bleaching could cause more sensitivity with some systems having ultraviolet light. The color in the Power bleaching could relapse faster then the 2 week methodical bleaching.

Both systems would require periodic boaster bleaching till the bleaching color maintains itself which is subjective from patient to patent.
Keep in mind.
From a practical standpoint bleaching treatments cannot be expected to make a change in the color of existing dental work, with some exceptions. In most cases, a person's teeth should be whitened first and then afterwards their dental work replaced so to match the new shade of their teeth.
